Da Doo Ron Ron
Performers improvise a song to the tune of “Da Doo Ron Ron.”
This is a good, simple singing game for a group. The main lines are improvised to the tune of the 1963 Crystals song “Da Doo Ron Ron”. Between each line, the entire group sings the song’s original lyrics, “Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron.”
All the “da doo ron rons” mean performers have some time to think of a rhyme, but it’s such a catchy tune that it doesn’t feel slow.
This is a copyrighted tune, so arrange the appropriate licensing.
For each verse, you can start with a new word from the audience. For example, “Fish.”
JAMES: I went out this morning and I caught a fish.
ALL: Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron.
CHRISTINE: I said I’m going to marry it, that’s what I wish.
ALL: Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron.
(CHORUS)
ALL: (Boo-ba-da-bom)
PAUL: Yeah, my mother’s mad.
ALL: (Boo-ba-da-bom)
JAMES: Yeah, and so’s my dad.
ALL: (Boo-ba-da-bom)
CHRISTINE: Plus they say the fish is bad.
ALL: Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron.
If you want to make it harder, give all three chorus lines all go to the same person, who must come up with a line and two rhymes to follow. (This doesn’t work for three singers, because if you go in strict rotation the same person will always be left with the difficult chorus.)
This can be played as a “Die Game”—players who can’t come up with suitable rhymes get knocked out of the row. Players can either sing lines in sequence, or a conductor points at the person who will sing next (which keeps everyone on their toes). If you fail, do it cheerfully – it’s very appealing.
In shows, this game is often used near the beginning of a set, to warm up the audience.
