Two’s Company
Players enter or leave so there are usually two players on stage.
You will need at least three players for this scene. Ask the audience for anything you like – an occupation, location, title…
The only rule of the game is that there shouldn’t be three or more players on stage for more than a few moments. If a new player enters, one of the people already there should find a reason to leave.
This game is more interesting if players assume that each new pairing has a different, important thing to talk about.
Barry is on stage alone, miming feeding ducks. Wendy enters. She passes a package to Barry.
WENDY: There’s the money.
BARRY: Twenty thousand, like we agreed?
WENDY: It’s all there. You promise he won’t suffer.
BARRY: It will be quick and merciful. He won’t know what happened.
Joe enters.
JOE: Hey, Wendy! I didn’t think I’d see you here at the park.
BARRY: Uh, thanks for the directions, lady. I should get going.
Barry leaves.
JOE: Who was that?
WENDY: Oh, nobody. Just some random person. I was just wondering – will you be home alone tomorrow between four and five…?
You don’t have to wait for a new person to enter before somebody leaves. If two are on stage, one can leave, leaving one person to wait or talk on the phone, then a different person enters.
